Team USA dinner in Fujisawa last week. Been a great week of setup, sailing, training in the gym, and eating and living as much like locals as we can. Fujisawa is a quick train ride from Enoshima, and we go there on a daily basis to use the gym. The dinner pictured here was an amazing surprise prepared especially for us by the sushi chef! We couldn’t communicate in the same language but we made sure to let him know how good it was! Can’t complain about good sailing, food, and teammates!

In the end it was a big month in Japan for USA 50! After a week of racing the Nacra fleet only sailed 5 races because of too little or too much wind. We had some really good moments: great starts, good speed in wind and waves (which we have been working on all summer long!) and big improvements in our teamwork. We also had a little bit of bad luck: we were hit by a port tack boat downwind in big breeze and waves and were unable to sail 2/5 races because of the resulting damage. Needless to say, our score line suffered quite a bit, but thankfully everyone involved was uninjured. Tough event for us, but feeling lucky to have seen the progress that the results couldn’t show, and to have spent this time on our Games race courses getting familiar with the venue! Next stop: Long Beach, Oakcliff, and finally Auckland, New Zealand. Thank you, our supporters for watching and cheering us on... we couldn’t do it without you!!
