While new to Olympic foiling catamaran racing, Hoel is uniquely qualified to excel in the Nacra 17 thanks to his background in high-performance classes including the WASZP and Nacra 15. Paired with strong athleticism, calm decision-making, and a team-first approach, his skill set translates naturally to the physical and technical demands of elite foiling competition.
Sailing Bio
Hoel Menard is an American high-performance sailor whose career has spanned skiffs, foiling dinghies, and multihulls at the national and international level. He has raced extensively in the WASZP, competing at National, Americas, and World Championships, and brings a long-standing multihull foundation as a skipper and crew in the Nacra 15, including appearances at U.S. Youth Championships and major North American regattas.
Beyond his primary classes, Hoel’s experience includes the 29er, International 14, Moth, Star, and J/70, with roles ranging from helm to tactician in both inshore and big-boat racing, including multiple editions of the Rolex Big Boat Series. His technical background is further strengthened by hands-on work in rigging and composites, contributing to a deep understanding of boat setup and performance. With roots at Richmond Yacht Club and St. Francis Yacht Club, Hoel brings a breadth of high-performance racing experience that provides a strong foundation for progression into Olympic foiling catamaran competition.
